Peter Marchetti has won the race to be the next mayor of Pittsfield. Marchetti defeated former city councilor John Krol.

"I think the voters of Pittsfield know that I'm the guy that can get the job done," Marchetti said Tuesday night. "And I'm thrilled to death they have made that decision."

Marchetti has served on the city council for 16 years, including the past 8 years as the council’s president.

Prior to the election, Marchetti said his experience in city government will help him tackle important issues as soon as he takes office.

“We're going to hit the ground running on January 2nd once we're sworn in, we're going to start putting together some of the things that we've talked about," Marchetti said. "We've been pretty aggressive about talking about mental health and substance use disorder task force to help the folks that really need it and to start focusing on some of the issues that we see in our downtown.”

Marchetti also said he’s heard from residents that taxes, water and sewer rates and the downtown bike lanes are issues they’d like to see addressed.
