WORCESTER, Mass. - Dozens of people gathered Thursday afternoon at Worcester City Hall to raise the Palestinian flag amid the Israel-Hamas war.
The flag-raising follows a Sunday night demonstration outside City Hall in which hundreds gathered for a “Stand with Palestine” rally. People attending both events wanted to show their support for the people of Palestine, while calling for a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas.
At Thursday’s flag raising, Tahir Ali of the Worcester Islamic Center called for peace.
“That flag alone is a symbol of peace,” Ali said. “It's a symbol of hope, and we want to take small victories as you go along. You need to have peace. I mean, it's gone too far. The world needs to intervene. They need to see. They're looking at those scenes on the TV, children are dying. Then I think it's about time that the world comes up and steps up.”
It is unclear how long the flag will fly for at City Hall.
