WORCESTER, Mass. - Some local artists are sprucing up Worcester's Main South neighborhood with several pieces you can now go visit.
Art in the Heart of Main South is a partnership between Art in the Park and Clark University. The collaboration aims to improve public access to art through installations, specifically, throughout Main South.
Saturday was cause for celebration, as seven new pieces were unveiled throughout University Park as well as on the Clark campus. Art in the Park's co-founder Gloria Hall says the area doesn't have as much public art, and there was a great need for it.
"It just activates the space, and it provides people the opportunity to engage with each other," Hall said. "Because, often time when one person is looking at another person they'll come up and there will be conversation started with strangers. It's just an opportunity to create memories, build community really."
Hall and Art in the Park were awarded earlier this year with the Harvey Ball Smile Award. The Worcester Historical Museum said the program has brought culture to the Worcester community and Elm Park for a decade.
