WORCESTER, Mass. - Family Health Center of Worcester says their operation has been "quite intense" since an influx of migrants began arriving in Massachusetts.
Gov. Maura Healey declared a state of emergency in August, calling on the federal government to provide assistance. In September, the governor's office reported many of the more than 6,200 families in the state's emergency shelters were migrants.
Many have come to the central and western part of the state, and Family Health Center president and CEO Louis Brady said those who are arriving are in need of everything.
"Two parts - number one, we've gone out to them,” Brady said. “We meet people where they're at because we need to establish that bridge, create that pathway to them. Then, when they show, they can get what they need, be it health care, support, applying for benefits. We're here to support."
Brady said the mission at Family Health Center has not changed with the increased numbers they're seeing.
Last month, Healey also activated 250 national guard members to provide services at emergency shelter hotels.
