WESTBOROUGH, Mass. - It was a reunion unlike any other in Westborough Sunday.

Dozens of former racers, team members and fans got together in celebration of the former Westboro Speedway. Some former race cars were even there.

The quarter-mile track was used for races between 1947 and 1985, just off of Route 9. It was a high-bank, paved track, described as one of the fastest on the east coast.

"Well this is pretty, pretty exciting because stock car racing of any kind really has a passionate following and certainly that was the case for Westboro Speedway; people that went to the races there every Saturday night," said Pete Falconi, whose father owned the former track. "And to come out and kind of relive it here for a few hours, here in Westborough just a couple of miles from where the Speedway used to be, people just love it. Of course you hear the stories and everybody’s got something to say about what they experienced when they went to the Westboro Speedway."

The reunion also featured scrap books with collections of photos, newspaper clippings and memories of the track's history. What remains of the track is now the RK Speedway Plaza, which is a collection of stores and restaurants.
