STERLING, Mass. - It was a close call getting the Davis Mega Maze ready to open this year.

“It's climate change and mother nature versus a world-class corn maze and I’ll tell you, they really put us through our paces this year," said Davis Farmland owner Larry Davis.

However, the popular fall attraction is still making it work, even with record rainfall impacting their most important activity.

“It was dicey, it’s just something the corn doesn’t like," Davis said. "About three and a half weeks ago, we had pretty much five days of where it was like 90 degrees with tropical humidity and that is what the corn loves."

It was just enough for the corn to grow tall enough to make the maze possible. Its 25th year is set to begin on Saturday.

“When you take everything in here at Davis Mega Maze, it is literally the most fun part of fall," Davis said.

This year’s theme is witches and wizards. This maze is unique in New England - it's about 80 acres in size with just shy of three miles of pathways.

“The easiest way to go through the Mega Maze is to go through and survive.," Davis said. "Just enter and exit. We have seven intensity levels to this maze, that is level one, You’ll want to bring your broom stick, your magic wand, whatever is going to help you get through."

Most people make it out in about an hour and a half. Once they do, there’s a lineup of food and drinks on the menu and more than 50 other activities to try.

“I love the zip line, its such a great zip line," Davis said. "The cannon blasters, lazer tag, we have a paintball shooting gallery, giant cornhole, just all kind of giant games."

The mega maze is only open on the weekends in October. Davis expects to welcome about 100,000 people by the end of the month.
