LEOMINSTER, Mass. - Gov. Maura Healey surveyed the flood damage in Leominster Tuesday afternoon.

Healey said one of the impacted dams in the area has already been fixed, with the other expected to be finished soon. She also said the state is working to get federal funding to help impacted communities by declaring a state of emergency for Massachusetts.

"Basically, the state of play right now is one, we continue to be vigilant about the weather,” Healey said. “We do expect more rain in the coming days. We're going to watch closely, hurricane activity and how that will affect things.

“Two, we're going to continue to stay in close coordination, local, state and federal officials. I've reached out to both the Biden administration and to our congressional delegation and I know we've been in touch with FEMA to request all assistance that we can get to help get us through this time."

Leominster will not have school again on Wednesday as the city addresses the storm damage. Mayor Dean Mazzarella said one school in particular sustained heavy damage and crews are expected to work through the night.
