WORCESTER, Mass. — It may not be what kids want to hear right now, but the end of summer vacation is very close. One local nonprofit is making sure everyone is ready.

Ryan Brown and his nonprofit Go Hard or Stay Home hosted their second backpack drive at the Fraternal Order of Eagles Sunday. The program teaches area youth the fundamentals of basketball in hopes of enhancing one’s skills and hopefully helping them become better people along the way.

Brown and volunteers handed out more than 100 backpacks full of supplies to kids during the afternoon.

He says they're grateful to be able to provide for local students of all ages.

"Just giving back to my community and seeing the kid's faces and how happy they are to get these things because I know some families aren't as fortunate to get all the back to school things, so it's nice to give back," said Zaylee Ramos, a volunteer.

"Today I just came here to support Ryan as he supported me," said Sidney Hall, a volunteer. "Ever since I've worked with him and I just wanted to help him give back to the community "

"So, hopefully more kids get involved and we can expand and grow, try and get the community together more," Brown said.

The Worcester Police Mounted Patrol Unit paid a visit to the backpack drive Sunday. The remainder of the backpacks will be donated to Worcester East Middle, Friendly House, and the Department of Children and Families.
