WORCESTER, Mass. — Ahead of this year's World Smile Day on Oct. 6, the Worcester Historical Museum is trying to break history, and your smile would help.

They're attempting to break the Guinness World Record for most smiles, and it'll take about 20,000 people.

At Thursday's Out to Lunch event on the Worcester Common, dozens of people added their smiles to the gallery.

Dan Gillooly, a photography intern with the museum, said it's all in the name of a great cause.

"We're working with a nonprofit organization called Smile Train, which does fundraising and awareness for cleft palate," Gillooly said. "Because Worcester is the home of the smile invented by Harvey Ball, they reached out and we're working with them to try and set the record."

If you want to help out and get your smile in the project, you can visit its official website, and click on the tab which reads 'I want to make history.'

The Worcester Historical Museum asks that you ensure you take a clear, well-lit picture.
