WORCESTER, Mass. — Championships will be on the line this weekend in Worcester as local boxers are set to headline a professional show at a popular venue.
"Pandemonium at the Palladium" introduced their fight card on Monday night. The co-main event is an eight-round bout for the vacant IBA America's super middleweight title. It features two undefeated Massachusetts fighters in Pittsfield's Steve "The Savage" Sumpter and Lynn's James "Pitbull" Perkins.
Sumpter (8-0) has only been boxing for about five years. Seven of his eight wins are by knockout.
"I'm really excited. I can't wait to get in there with another undefeated prospect and show what I can do," Sumpter said.
Holyoke's Denzel "Double Impact" Whitely (11-0) is putting his undefeated record on the line in the night's other co-main event. He'll meet Hector "El Gatito" Esnar Bobadilla in an eight-round fight for the vacant USBF Atlantic welterweight championship.
Worcester super welterweight Eslih Owusu meets Larry Smith in a six-round fight on the undercard.
The fights start at 7:30 p.m. at the Palladium Saturday.
