WORCESTER, Mass. – The City of Worcester held a meeting Monday night to discuss proposed improvements to Mill Street.
Residents gathered at the Mill Swan School to hear city officials speak about the plans. Locals were encouraged to review the proposed safety and traffic improvements that will be put in place.
The street is currently undergoing phase one of the plan, which includes the maintenance of the road, repaving, turning the road from four travel lanes to two and adding bike lanes. The community and city are hoping these changes make for safer travel on the road.
“Mill Street is known for being a speedy highway and there’s a lot of residents who have expressed concerns about it,” said District 5 City Councilor Etel Haxhiaj, whose district includes Mill Street. “A little child was hit last year, fortunately not with serious injuries. So, it’s incredibly important to have a road design that facilitates less speeding.”
The city is asking Mill Street residents to get involved with phase two of the project, which will be a redesign of the street. It will begin once the city receives federal and state funding.
