WORCESTER, Mass. - In an effort to get books in the hands of community members, the Worcester Public Library installed three new library vending machines across the city.
It's part of a partnership with the City of Worcester and the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners.
On Friday, they unveiled the new vending machine inside Union Station. There are others at the YMCA on Main Street and the Worcester Senior Center.
They said the goal was to put them in areas with high foot traffic.
“The whole thought behind this vending machine is to make sure that people who may not be able to get to a physical library branch can still have access to the library” said Executive Director Jason Homer. “So we're here for our commuters, we're here for those who are coming off the bus, we're here for those who need an introduction to services. They can now get that through this machine here."
There are about 300 books in each machine, including popular and current titles.
People can get and return books at the machines by using their Worcester library card.
