WORCESTER, Mass. - Dozens of Starbucks workers in Worcester held a strike Friday over allegations the company has banned Pride displays in stores.

Workers say while they haven't had any issues in the city, they're acting in solidarity with other stores.

Union member Julie Langevin said more than 150 locations conducted strikes, alleging Starbucks has changed their rules on what type of displays can be put up. They want to make sure customers are aware of what's happening.

“Workers today at the Worcester location are participating in a nationwide picket demanding Starbucks support its queer, LGBTQIA+ workers and show up for them and actually support them, as well as give them the contract that they’ve been fighting for for a year and a half now,” Langevin said.”

Starbucks denies the accusations, saying claims made by workers united are false. The company said they have not pulled any Pride merchandise from stores and has not changed any corporate policies or approaches to celebrating Pride Month.

Management operated the Worcester store Friday while the workers picketed.
