WORCESTER, Mass — A local diner fired up the grills for a hot dog eating contest this weekend.

Rumble at Ralphie's was a day-long party benefitting the Worcester Hot Dog Safari. The event takes place in August and raises money for the Worcester County Food Bank. The safari goes around the area to sample and rate hot dogs.

On Saturday, 13 eaters filled their stomachs with as many hot dogs as they could eat in 10 minutes.

"The hot dog being such a unique food, we're a unique organization. Worcester's a unique place. It all kind of comes together and it's something like hot dogs," said Tom Mahoney, a member of the Safari. "We just want to make the most people happy that we can."

"Every year, it just keeps getting bigger, keeps getting better. More people come out. More people are interested, and it's just lovely we get to host it now at the historic Ralph's Rock Diner," said Ryan McArdle.

"It feels pretty good to win," said Brandon Wood. "I thought I would do more. It's always fun to have a whole audience cheering, even if it's not for me. It's just fun."

Wood, this year's winner, ate 20 hot dogs. Local professional eater Geoffrey Esper was one of the judges.

Saturday's events also included an outdoor show by Beyond Wrestling and live music.
