Gov. Maura Healey, who last year became the nation’s first openly lesbian elected governor, took to social media to celebrate the start of pride month Pride Month.
In a video posted to Twitter, Healey praised the state’s history of trailblazing LGBTQ+ rights and promised those rights will always be protected in Massachusetts.
“To LGBTQ+ folks, and especially young people all across the county, I know we’re in tough times,” Healey said in the video. “I know that the road ahead looks long and hard, but know that you are welcome, loved and celebrated here in Massachusetts. Come see us. Happy Pride.”
Happy Pride, Massachusetts! 🌈

Pride is a celebration of loud, colorful, unapologetic LGBTQ+ joy. It’s also a time to remember the shoulders we stand on and the trailblazers still paving the way for everyone to love openly and live proudly. pic.twitter.com/PsRJNeG7Wo
Lt. Gov. Kim Driscoll posted on social media as well, writing, “Each June (and every month of the year!) we celebrate the hard-won progress of the LGBTQ+ community and rally around the right to live and love without fear. I’m always proud to march alongside you!”
