WORCESTER, Mass. - Lives lost in the Vietnam War were honored Monday with a ceremony at Green Hill Park in Worcester.
The state's four-acre memorial includes a pond, walking paths and the memorial.
It's dedicated to the 1,546 men and one woman from Massachusetts who died during the war.
"Well this is a great day to remember all those who gave their life for their country,” said Phil Madaio, president of the Board of Directors for the Massachusetts Vietnam Veterans Memorial. “You talk about people going into the service, but these people actually, they went in and they gave their lives for our country. It's beautiful up here, if you haven't been up here yet, take a chance, come on up, to Green Hill Park and visit the Massachusetts Vietnam Veterans Memorial. Most people don't know it's the Massachusetts Vietnam Memorial, they think it’s Worcester’s memorial, but it's the state's memorial. Come up and you'd probably find a name, you might know somebody who was in 'Nam."
March 29 of this year marked the 50th anniversary of when the last U.S. troops left Vietnam and the final group of American prisoners of war were freed and left Hanoi.
