SHREWSBURY, Mass. — Those April showers paying off for the Shrewsbury Garden Club Saturday, bringing some may flowers and plants.
The group hosting their spring plant sale, offering a wide variety of annuals, tomatoes, herbs, hanging baskets, which were all grown in a local nursery.
But the group says their mainstay is perennials.
The organization has been around since 1957, and looks to beautify the town and educate the public about horticulture.
The plant sale has been at the senior center for the last decade.
For members, it is a special experience to go to their sale as opposed to other options.
“I think when you come here, though, we educate you,” said the club’s Co-Director Barbara Droege. “We will tell you what plants are maybe a little too enthusiastic, the conditions, shade, sun, high moisture, low moisture. Enthusiasm means how fast it spreads. Certain plants you want to, but don’t put them in a place that you don’t want too much spread. So we’re always educating people.”
Money raised will go toward beautifying traffic islands in town, as well as other projects throughout Shrewsbury.
