WORCESTER, Mass. - The Worcester Fire Department held a career day Tuesday for city high school students at their headquarters on Grove Street.
Nearly 200 came students to watch a burn demonstration, check out some of the department's trucks and ask any questions they had about the job. Assistant Chief Adam Roche said it was a great chance for students to learn about the first responders in their community.
"These students, they don't get a lot of exposure to the Worcester Fire Department or what we do for a living," Roche said. "So the goal here is to really get some exposure to them, show them what we do for a job on a daily basis. We have plenty of talent in the Worcester schools that we can draw from to really recruit to become future fire fighters for the city."
Roche said this is the second year they've held a career day. The Worcester Police Department and Worcester EMS were also at the event to answer any questions about their respective jobs.
