Bus drivers in several Massachusetts school districts are set to go on strike soon, including drivers in Westborough.

Teamsters Local 170, the union representing the drivers, informed Westborough superintendent Amber Bock of the strike last week. In the letter, the union said they'll likely be striking against bus company NRT Bus Inc. starting May 8.

The union said NRT refuses to reach a fair contract with drivers in Westborough, Framingham and Marlborough. The union also said they understand the strike will disrupt school operations, creating a hardship for many families, and the letter was meant to give families time to plan ahead.

In a statement, NRT said they have been negotiating in good faith with the union since January and remain optimistic that they will reach a resolution.

“While we respect our employees' federally protected right to strike, we are extremely saddened that the Teamsters are considering moving forward with a strike, particularly given the progress that we’ve made in our collective bargaining discussions over the last few months," the company said.
