A Worcester School Committee member is working to make sure the district is no longer allocating money to Old Sturbridge Village.

Tracy O’Connell Novick said the idea was first brought to her by the Educational Association of Worcester and the Massachusetts Teachers Association. Her agenda item at this week’s meeting asks district administrators to stop programs like field trips to the village.

Novick said she's concerned the museum is using the funds to cover operating costs at Old Sturbridge Academy and the future Worcester Cultural Academy public charter school.

"When people have a choice and can make a decision about what they do with their local dollars, I think they vote for their school district,” Novick said. “And this may be something other school committees across Massachusetts may want to take up."

Old Sturbridge Village did not respond to a request for comment.

Novick said there are plenty of other places to take students on field trips. The item will be discussed at Thursday night's school committee meeting and could be voted on then.
