PRINCETON, Mass. - The countdown is on for the end of ski season in Massachusetts, but there’s still some fun to be had on the slopes Saturday.
At Wachusett Mountain, lifts will spin from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. The mountain will host its annual "Northeast Meltdown" parks competition with a cash prize at stake, but if you’re looking for something more relaxed, there will also be a deck party with barbecue and live music.
Public releations manager Chris Stimpson said Wachusett had originally planned to close April 2, but there was just enough snow to keep the good times going.
“We were able to make a ton of snow this season and we got a little bit of help from mother nature, not a whole bunch, but there was so much snow from snowmaking that we decided to open it back up for our pass holders so they could enjoy it one more time,” Stimpson said.
With temperatures consistently in the 50s for much of this week, it was no easy feat to pull off.
“The groomers were working hard all week to patch up some of the spots that melted out, so coverage is still looking pretty good out there," Stimpson said.
Wachusett isn’t the only ski spot in Massachusetts managing to stay open this weekend. Berkshire East will also close out their season on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
