WORCESTER, Mass. - A recent data breach at the state’s Cannabis Control Commission is just the latest example of why state Sen. Michael Moore (D-Worcester) is calling for more oversight.

A list of 17,000 cannabis workers across the state was released this month, with their respective names, addresses and other personal information.

Moore previously introduced a bill to create an internal audit unit within the CCC for more transparency and accountability. He said the proper protocol for releasing this type of information was not followed, and now he is renewing his call for more coordination within the commission.

“I understand it’s a new entity, a new agency, so we’re going to have some growing pains,” Moore said. “But there are certain things that we should be able to have faith in that are going to be followed in terms of policies and procedures, especially giving out personal information.

Moore said his bill has support within the local cannabis industry and workers would like to see more oversight on the application process and how complaints are investigated.
