PAXTON, Mass. - The Anna Maria baseball team has had great success under sixth year head coach Dan Briand.
Last year, the AmCats were 23-17, 13-5 in the GNAC. Two years ago, they lost in the GNAC championship game. The bar has been set for Anna Maria and it's been set high. The players know it and everyone strives to meet the expectations.
"I think that it used to be kid of a surprise when we'd be in that moment," said Briand. "Now, we expect to be in that moment, we look forward to it, we train for it every day. Guys work their tails off to prepare for it, everything we do is about playing our best baseball in May when it matters most."
"Year in and year out, our standards are pretty high," said shortstop Kosta Drosidis. "It doesn't really pertain just to baseball, it pertains to what you do at home, what you do in the classroom, obviously what you do on the field. Basically, we what we want to do is compete our tails off every day."
"You know, I think this year we really raised our standards," said pitcher Nick Choate. "Last year we fell short, the year before we fell short, this year we're really trying to get the conference championship and win it to get to a regional."
Anna Maria is 3-7 this season after playing a very tough schedule on their Florida trip. They host Curry College on Wednesday at the New England Baseball Complex.
