WORCESTER, Mass. - The Worcester School Committee is considering the possibility of adopting "no homework days" district-wide.

School committee member Molly McCullough said they are reviewing policies across the school system to make sure they still work and make sense, including student work loads. She said homework has changed shape over the last few years and the bulk of school work should be done in the classroom.

McCullough agrees homework is a key part of schooling and she's talking with students and teachers to find what works best for them.

"We want the Worcester Public Schools to be the best district it can be and set our students up for success for the future, and that means making our students ready to go out into the real world," McCullough said. "So, this isn't trying to take away responsibility or making things too easy, it's about making things make sense."

The committee will discuss the idea at Thursday's meeting, but before anything is final, the proposal will go to a subcommittee where they will learn more.
