SUTTON, Mass. - Sutton is hosting a safety planning session for nearby school districts and emergency agencies this week during February school vacation.
The sessions are for local police and fire departments, DPW crews and school bus companies. The FEMA-led training is to help departments stay prepared in case of a school emergency.
Sutton Public Schools superintendent Kimberly Roberts-Morandi said these trainings are specifically aimed towards smaller, rural school districts and the challenges they face.
"There are particulars that we know and understand based on geographically where we are, and also based on the needs of the buildings, the particulars of our surroundings, that forces us to think a little bit differently about how do we handle any sort of emergency situation and how are we best prepared," Roberts-Morandi said.
"If we can send one message out to everyone in the Worcester County area, it's that we have the well-being of your children and all the people at heart and we'll do everything in our power to keep them safe," said Sutton Fire Chief Matt Belsito.
Belsito also said this training will be the largest of its kind that they host.
