Both state and federal lawmakers are looking at the possibility of making child care as affordable at $10 per day.

Sen. Elizabeth Warren is proposing a plan where a family in Massachusetts with an infant and a two-year-old making around $130,000 per year would pay no more than $200 per month. Right now, the average cost of daycare is more than $3,100 a month.

The bill would use a sliding scale to ensure fees are affordable based on families' income. Higher-income families would pay no more than 7% of their income.

Child care for lower income families making less than 75% of the state median income would be paid for by the government.
