HOLDEN, Mass. - A two-alarm fire displaced a Holden family from their home Wednesday.
Firefighters responded to Zottoli Road around 11:00 a.m. Two people were home at the time of the fire and made it out of the building safely. The Holden Fire Department said there was a fire in the basement when they arrived and the flames started to spread to the first floor.
Deputy Chief Sean Smith said the weather always plays a factor when fighting fires in the winter.
"Obviously, cold weather does impact our fire operations," Smith said at the scene. "As you can see, there's multiple mutual aid companies here. We're more apt to call additional assistance in on these cold weather days, just to help the on duty crews and make sure they're not overtaxed."
Mutual aid from four surrounding towns responded to the fire. No injuries were reported and the cause is under investigation.
