WORCESTER, Mass. - Polar Park will host the MIAA state baseball championships this season, the Worcester Red Sox announced Thursday.

The park will host five championship games at the end of the high school baseball season. WooSox president Charles Steinberg said hosting high school baseball is a great opportunity for the park.

"We want kids to come and see Polar Park, experience it," Steinberg said. "If you can play, play. Imagine if a member of the junior WooSox plays in the majors some day. Imagine if a MIAA player plays here some day and then plays in the majors and says, 'I played at Polar Park.' You have an opportunity with a gem of a diamond to let children play here, experience it. Let's see where they go."

The championship games will be held Friday, June 16 and Saturday, June 17.
