WORCESTER, Mass. - Holy Cross football head coach Bob Chesney has agreed to a restructured contract that runs through the 2027 season, the school announced Thursday.

Chesney had previously signed a contract extension in February 2022. He has led the Crusaders to four Patriot League championships in his five years as head coach.

Chesney told Spectrum News 1 the support he and the team has received from the school's administration was a factor in deciding to extend his contract.

"What President Vince (Rougeau) has done, what (Associate VP of Intercollegiate Athletics) Kit (Hughes) has done, what (Athletic Director) Nick Smith has done in the short period of time that team has been together really shines a light on the fact that they get it, they care about it and they want to work towards making it better," Chesney said.

"And that's really all that we could ask is that, you know, we're going to come down here and fight every single day, we're going to come down here and attack every single day. When you have people above you that really believe in your vision and believe in what you're doing and are willing to support it, it speaks volumes of it."

This past season, Holy Cross finished with an undefeated regular season record for the first time in 31 years. The Crusaders reached the quarterfinals of the FCS tournament before losing to eventual national champions South Dakota State. Chesney was named the 2022 FCS Region 1 Coach of the Year by the American Football Coaches Association.

Chesney has a career record of 104-42, including five years at Assumption and three seasons at Salve Regina before joining Holy Cross prior to the 2018 season.
