WORCESTER, Mass. - The Bancroft School, an independent day school in Worcester, is reducing the cost of tuition most grades by up to 15% for the 2023-24 school year.
The school announced the tuition reset as a way to expand access and affordability for students and families. It's the first major price reduction for the school in its nearly 125-year history.
While the school said enrollment is at the highest it's been in the last few years, they believe the tuition reduction will make them even more competitive.
"I think it will give people the opportunity to look at us and, if they've looked at us before, they'll look at us again and then they'll begin to see who we are today as to perhaps who they thought we were or what we were 50 years ago," said interim Head of School Tim Saburn. "I think it's absolutely intended to make us more competitive and I think it will."
Meanwhile, the nearby Worcester Academy has a tuition freeze on this current school year, along with reducing other costs and giving financial aid to 50% of families. The move was done in an effort to acknowledge the impact of the pandemic and inflation on families.
