What You Need To Know

  • Five individuals were arrested for items found during the execution of a search warrant in Pittsfield

  • The search warrant was conducted at 110 Pontoosuc Avenue and 91 Dalton Avenue by the Berkshire County Law Enforcement Task Force

  • The defendants currently face various firearm and narcotics charges

  • District Attorney Timothy Shugrue said his office believes the five defendants have limited ties to Pittsfield

Berkshire County District Attorney Timothy Shugrue said the issue of illegal guns is a top concern of his, mentioning it during his swearing in ceremony less than a week ago.

The DA’s office announced five men with limited ties to Pittsfield were arrested Sunday following the recovery of two firearms, as well as evidence of cocaine and heroin distribution.

One of the guns recovered had a defaced serial number and the other a large capacity feeding device - both prohibited by state gun laws.

Shugrue said his office had been working on the investigation with local and state police prior to being sworn in.

“So we had, I think a 22 caliber and a 9 millimeter high capacity firearm," Shugrue said. "So when you’re dealing with high capacity firearms, our police officers are risking their lives every day on the streets, so we want to make sure that they’re safe and they’re keeping our communities safe. We want to make sure we back them and prosecute those cases.

"I’m very proud of the state police and the Pittsfield Police Department in the investigation that they did that led to the arrest of these five individuals who were basically from New York City.”

Four of the defendants are being held on bail while the fifth had bail revoked because of another open narcotics case.

"As I said from the beginning - I’m not tolerating guns, I’m not tolerating drugs in our community and I want the message to be loud and clear, if you come here from New York City, you may not be going home," Shugrue said. "You come up here armed, you’re not going home because we’re going to arrest you and put you in jail.”

The report can be found here. According to the Berkshire District Attorney's Office, the following was recovered:

• two loaded firearms: one with a defaced serial number and one with a large capacity feeding device;

• quantities of cocaine packaged for distribution;

• quantities of heroin packaged for distribution; and

• distribution indicators such as a functioning digital scale, unused wax bags and various quantities of U.S. Currency.
