WORCESTER, Mass. - Some local leaders in central Massachusetts have already been working with the new Healey administration to help prepare them to serve the commonwealth.
Six transition committees are helping Gov.-elect Maura Healey and Lt. Gov.-elect Kim Driscoll with their new roles. United Way of Central Mass president, Tim Garvin, is serving on one of them.
Garvin said he was picked because of the work United Way does in Worcester County. He hopes to use what they do to create change across the state.
"Worcester is like the engine that can," Garvin said. "We are a perfect size. We are collaborative and compassionate and adding what we do and what we've learned and how that can translate and ripple across the state to make everyone in the state better. I think it's deeply important."
Worcester superintendent Rachel Monarrez, UMass Memorial Health CEO Dr. Eric Dickson and former Lt. Gov. Tim Murray are also serving on transition committees.
