LEOMINSTER, Mass. - The Sutton High School girls soccer program captured its 10th state title in an action packed match against previously undefeated Monson Saturday at Doyle Field. The Suzies led most of the way and took their first lead in the ninth minute thanks to a goal from freshman Ava Magnuson.

Monson tied it later in the first half when Ciara Monaghan's free kick was re-directed into the back of the Suzies' net. The Mustangs (20-1-2) seemed to control play after the goal until the Suzies' (18-5-1) Magnuson got behind the defense and Monson's keeper to bury her second goal. Sutton led 2-1 going into halftime.

The Suzies kept the pressure on in the second half breaking through again when sophomore Addison Jerome tallied. After Mustangs' keeper Samantha Stewart made a tremendous save on a Jerome shot, the Suizes regrouped and senior Natalie Smith and Maguson helped set up Jerome who made good on the opportunity giving Sutton a 3-1 lead.

Monson got to within one on freshman Hannah Murphy's goal in the 73rd minute, but Sutton hung on from there to claim the school's second straight division five state championship.
