WORCESTER, Mass. - Worcester Community Housing Resources is proposing to convert the Quality Inn and Suites on Oriol Drive into 90 units of supportive housing.

It would also include clinical services, behavioral health and recovery coaching for residents. The housing will be for individual adults experiencing homelessness, who can apply through a coordinated entry system. Residents would be required to pay a portion of their income towards rent.

The nonprofit has developed a plan to buy and transform the 114-room hotel into 57 one-bedroom apartments and 33 studio apartments.

"We will have on-site supportive services through our partner Eliot Community Human Services, who is a model program serving people across the state,” said Jennifer Schanck-Bolwell, executive director of Worcester Community Housing Resources. “They will provide clinic support, case management and recovery coaching. We will also have security staff and the building will be staffed 24 hours a day. These are really the folks that are in the lowest of incomes with significant needs."

The project will be a low income housing tax credit project. It’s expected to go before the city’s planning board on November 30. The goal is to be fully leased in 2024.
