There’s a 'Fall Jazz Sprawl' in the Berkshires this weekend, with jazz performances running Friday through Sunday.
“It’s always great to play, especially with wonderful fellow players like this," Don Mikkelsen, of the Don Mikkelson Quartet, said.

Mikkelsen is looking forward to being one of the eleven acts slated for the Fall Jazz Sprawl. The three-night event, organized by the Mill Town Foundation, will be “sprawled” across Pittsfield and Lenox.
In addition to playing, Mikkelsen is looking forward to watching other area artists perform. He’s lived in the Berkshires for about 15 years and said it’s been great to be a part of the growing scene.
“While I’ve been here, the jazz scene has grown and gotten better, with more and more wonderful musicians coming to the area," Mikkelsen said. "There's wonderful musicians that grew up here, and so there’s so many great players, it’s bound to happen. So, it’s really been great to watch the scene start to take off.”
Event organizers are excited to highlight the Berkshire’s jazz scene.
“The jazz scene is sprawling," said Ed Bride, president of Berkshires Jazz Inc. "I mean, it’s all over the place. I just think a lot of people don’t really understand that it’s here. So, we’re calling attention to it on this weekend. And we’ll finish it up on Sunday with a young 16-year-old prodigy, a piano player named Brandon Goldberg. He’ll be playing at the Gateway’s Inn.”
While this year marks the first 'Fall Jazz Sprawl,' Bride expects it to become a tradition for area jazz players and enthusiasts.
“It’s very exciting to see the acceptance that it’s had, and we expect it’ll be an annual affair," Bride said.
While the headliner of the weekend Brandon Goldberg is sold-out, there’s ten other performances to can check out, including Mikkelsen’s group playing at the Berkshire Palate on Friday.
