WORCESTER, Mass. - Kevin Lovaincy is being hired as Quinsigamond Community College's first director of diversity, equity and inclusion.

He said typically, jobs like this are requested from leadership, but in his case, it's something the QCC and Worcester community asked for. The new role will ensure an environment that is more equitable and inclusive for all.

Lovaincy said he plans to look at the hiring process and work to find qualified, diverse candidates. He said he hopes he can make an impact campus-wide.

"For diversity, equity and inclusion it's not something you can measure, it's a feel," Lovaincy said. "So when we get to the campus that feels welcoming from all aspects and all walks of life, people feel welcome valued and heard that's when I'll be satisfied. So that's my biggest goal. It's not about reaching benchmarks, but its the culture shift to DEI."

Lovaincy previously worked in a similar position at the state's department of public health.
