A new skate park in Worcester is open more than three years after a popular site nearby was demolished.
The Crompton Park Skate Park includes elements for all skateboarding skill levels, like a bowl, street course and snake run.
The city-owned property includes new storm water management elements and flood storage areas which made building the skate park possible.
The city spent $2 million from its capital budget on the park and has invested $12 million on renovations at Crompton Park in recent years.
“It’s about trying to look at the park system as a whole, figure out what we need where we need it and then really put those pieces together,” said DPW Assistant Commissioner Rob Antonelli. “Working with all our partners on the state, federal and the local level to a have the public and then get things built so that they are useful and important for the neighborhoods.”
“It’s great to have people skate and knowing that it’s open so everyone can skate it,” said skateboarder Andrew Ducharme. “I love to know that, ‘hey, want to come to Crompton?” I can always come here to hang out with people.’”
The park is located at the corner of Quinsigamond Avenue and Endicott Street behind the park's softball diamond.
The hand built Worcide Skate Park was demolished in July 2018 after city leaders said it was a health risk.
