WORCESTER, Mass. — Local vendors are helping raise money for the people of Puerto Rico who are recovering after Hurricane Fiona.

Members of the Christian Community Church hosted the event “Pop-Up para Puerto Rico” Saturday.

Vendors helped raise money to support projects funded by Amor para Puerto Rico, which will go toward supporting sustainable rebuilding projects in the hardest hit areas of the island.

The event featured vendors selling products like food, crafts, and a variety of other items.

Some vendors still have family in Puerto Rico and say they’re happy to help.

“I have my mother, I have my sister, I have an uncle and they still have no electricity,” vendor Deborah Gonzalez said. “Everybody is given a gift and we should use our gifts to help. And I do this as a hobby and it’s fun, but if you can do something fun to help others, that is the best win-win situation.”

“I was already going to be launching Craft for a Cause, which I created two years ago. We decided to shift our re-launch to be a pop up for Puerto Rico,” Worcester City Counselor Sarai Rivera said. “Get other vendors to come in and support. So then I met with artisans and my whole table of art from Puerto Rico — 100% of the proceeds will go.”

Rivera said she's planning more Craft for a Cause events for November and December.
