WORCESTER, Mass. - The construction manager for the new Doherty Memorial High School project in Worcester was fined $300 after a fire at the school earlier this month.
The Worcester Fire Department fined Fontaine Brothers, Inc. for three violations of $100 each for welding work done after their hot work permit expired.
An investigation determined the cause of the fire was a welding incident at the construction scene.
The violations include a failure of the hot work operator to handle equipment so as to not endanger lives and property. The fire department has since issued additional hot work permits.
The city said the permits are issued once a company submits the location and scope of the work at a site. If either changes, the company is required to apply for a new permit.
