WORCESTER, Mass. - The Central Mass Jazz Fest continued Wednesday at the Worcester Beer Garden, featuring a performance by the Russo Brothers Quintet.
The five-day festival started as a fundraiser for WCCA-TV in 202. Local and world-renowned musicians play free, live music at different venues around the city.
Mauro DePasquale, the public access station's executive director, said he wanted to do something different than a normal fundraiser. He said there's a correlation between jazz and public access TV.
"People are expressing themselves freely," DePasquale said. "They're improvising as they go. They're passionate about what they do and the result is amazing creativity and amazing art. And we see the same thing in television arts as well. We think it's a perfect fit and we're happy to present it."
The event runs through Saturday. Thursday night features a screening of a documentary on Jaki Byard, a legendary jazz pianist.
