WORCESTER, Mass. - In July, JetBlue moved to a larger plane for their daily service from Worcester Regional Airport to Fort Lauderdale.
The airline now uses an Airbus A320. It can seat 62 more people than the previous aircraft.
Airport Director Andy Davis said it seems like the upgrade is paying off.
"Since they've upgraded, over 80 percent of those flights have had over 100 passengers which means they flew over 3,800 more people than they could have if they were still flying the E190,” Davis said. “So what that says is that's a popular flight and even more important central Massachusetts is supporting that flight. That's good news for us and a great opportunity to show we can still grow here for future opportunities."
Davis said American and Delta have also gone to larger airplanes. He said in total, Worcester is up 27 percent in the number of seats airlines offer on their planes when compared to before the pandemic.
