PITTSFIELD, Mass. - A piece of Western Massachusetts is now in Uvalde, Texas.

Students at Herberg Middle School in Pittsfield and their art teacher created a sculpture of 1,000 paper cranes as part of a 3D art class. They represent symbols of peace, hope and healing.

Art teacher Rebecca Roy said she sent the sculpture to the El Progreso Memorial Library in Uvalde, since the future of the Robb Elementary School was unknown.

Roy said she sent it without even reaching out, but included a note and the library did put it on display.

"I was really moved by the power that our students have and just that they can send energy and they can communicate and they can spread their ideas form thousands of miles and their art work can make a difference” said Roy. “I was really moved. I think the students are proud of their work."

Roy said it took about three months for the students to fold all the pieces and then she strung them together over the summer.
