WORCESTER, Mass. — Worcester Emergency Management launched a summer learning series to give people more insight into what actually happens when you call 911.

The first video was launched last week, introducing the Communications Center. Over the next several weeks, they'll post a weekly video on Tuesdays. Director Charles Goodwin said they want people to be familiar with how their operation works and what to expect when you call. He said with technology changing so much over the last decade, it’s important to share how they're changing.

“We are here for you 24 hours, 7 days a week. 911 is certainly not something we want anyone to be afraid to call,” Goodwin said. “We understand that at the end of the day no one calls 911 on their best day, it’s often their worst day and it’s often full of emotion and stress, but we are here for you. We’ve got trained telecommunicators that although it seems we are asking a lot of questions ultimately, we’re trying to find the right people to come help you and get them there as soon as possible.”

The next video in the series will be launched Tuesday, July 12, and will cover what happens when you accidentally call 911 and the steps they take to ensure you're safe. The videos are posted to the Worcester Emergency Management’s Facebook page.
