WORCESTER, Mass. - A Worcester Academy alumnus has gifted $20 million to the school to help revitalize and built new facilities on campus.

Commercial real estate developer and businessman Ron Capozzoli Sr. said he made the gift in recognition for the memorable and formative experience he received during his time there. With the funds, Worcester Academy plans to rename The Megaron in honor of Capozzoli and begin renovations to the building used as a gathering space for students.

The new complex will be located at the Academy’s South Campus—the former St. Vincent Hospital property on Providence Street.

Worcester Academy will also construct a new state-of-the-art recreation and athletic complex at the Academy’s South Campus and direct $1 million to the Capozzoli family endowed scholarship fund.

Head of School Kevin Breen said Capozzoli credits a lot of his success in life to his two years spent at the school and to his mentors. He said this gift will go a long way.

“What it means for us, among other things, is an opportunity to execute on a master plan that was collecting a little dust during the pandemic at a time when it was hard to be strategic and forward thinking,” Breen said. “We’re going to exit this pandemic with tremendous momentum thanks to Mr. Capozzoli and get moving on the campus master plan.”

The school says they will give more plans about the new athletic complex this fall.
