49-year-old Luis Rosado was arrested at a house on Fenn Street in Pittsfield on Thursday morning and is charged with a single count of murder.

According to the DA’s office, Luis and the victim, Jillian Rosado, had been married for five months, and had an argument shortly before Jillian was found dead in her apartment on Charles Street in North Adams.

“Days before the murder, a witness did overhear Mr. Rosado tell his wife Jillian that he would kill her if she left him,” said Berkshire District Attorney Andrea Harrington at a press conference on Thursday.

Luis pled guilty to several domestic violence related counts towards a different partner in the fall of 2020.

The Elizabeth Freeman Center provides resources for domestic violence victims in Berkshire County, and executive director Janis Broderick said repeat offenses like this happen too often.

“I think it’s not uncommon for abusers to go from one victim to another and not held accountable for their crimes,” said Broderick. “I don’t think these crimes are taken seriously enough.”

The center is seeing an increase in calls to their domestic violence hotline and has since the pandemic started. Broderick urged anyone who is feeling unsafe to reach out for help.

“Sometimes you don’t feel like you have options,” said Broderick. “But there are some options that may work for you, and there is life after.”
