WORCESTER, Mass. - Boston Police are warning bar goers to be alert.

They say they’ve noticed many social media posts from people saying they were victims of drink spiking. There are also reports of incidents on Cape Cod.

Police are urging anyone who thinks they might be a victim to come forward and are reminding people of how serious the situation is. The drugs commonly referred to as “roofies” are typically scentless, odorless and tasteless and can make a victim disoriented or unconscious.

Worcester Police Lt. Sean Murtha said while they’re not currently seeing cases here in Worcester, he has some safety reminders.

“Most important is to watch your drink be poured and not leave it. So don’t go to the bathroom and leave it with somebody else, don’t put it on the table if you just hang onto your drink watch it be poured you take it, it’s kind of minimal chances of this happening,” Murtha said. “If you do leave it, I say just abandon the drink. If you end up putting it down and come back to it later, don’t pick it up again. Don’t take drinks from strangers.”

Police said anyone who may feel dizzy, lightheaded or nauseous seek help. Murtha said police consider spiking drinks Assault and Battery with a Dangerous Weapon. He said there are Facebook posts going around which claims five people died recently at a Worcester bar from drinks being spiked, but said this is false and did not happen.
