In late March, the FDA granted a three-month extension past the expiration dates for the iHealth brand of COVID-19 antigen rapid tests. All iHealth tests with expiration dates by Sept. 29, 2022 are approved for the extension.
iHealth labs said they plan on applying to the FDA for shelf life extensions every three months based on their stability studies.
Over the winter, the Commonwealth of Massachusetts received 26 million rapid antigen tests from iHealth Labs. They prioritized the tests to K-12 schools and child care programs.
Some tests currently in Worcester schools have an expiration date in late May.
