WORCESTER, Mass. - A new interactive tool at the Central Mass Collaborative School in Worcester will give students a chance to refocus their energy.

McLaren & Associates donated the sensory path to the Hartwell Learning Center. It's used to help kids regain productive use of their energy by walking, jumping, bouncing, or relaxing.

The school is for students in need of specialized services. Teachers there said when students are overstimulated it's a chance for them to push through their distractions.

"When you’re using that path there is breathing techniques that are involved, there is self-pacing that is involved, there is muscle control, there is hand eye coordination” said fourth and fifth grade teacher Kathy Bierch. “All of those pieces, when you think about using them in conjunction with the purpose of being ready, that brings skill to every area of your life. Who doesn’t need to practice that? Everyone needs to practice that."

"There is both public and private schools that are suffering from funding and even just getting off of supplies is a big deal” said David McLaren, Managing Partner for McLaren & Associates CPAs. “So trying to get something like this is almost impossible, so if you can give them something that they can really use and has an immediate impact on the kids I think it’s a big deal. We wanted to jump out it when we could."

McLaren said they hope to make more donations to other Worcester area schools in the future.
