WORCESTER, Mass. - The numbers are in and the Worcester Red Sox are a box office smash.
In this week’s WooSox Weekly, team president Dr. Charles Steinberg talks about the club’s attendance in the 2022 season.
“The attendance has been extraordinary and for us to have 14 sellouts already, and for us to have the highest attendance of any AAA club, any AAA or AA club,” Dr. Steinberg said. “Of all the clubs that have opened at least 20 times, we have the highest average attendance in all of Minor League Baseball. So that’s something for which we just say to everybody, ‘Thank you.’”
Steinberg noted during the 2021 inaugural season there was no baseball played at Polar Park in April and the ballpark didn’t open until May 11.
“The number of games in which people have really filled the house is extraordinary,” Dr. Steinberg said."So yes, it is surprising that people are so quickly learning their ecosystem. It’s pretty extraordinary. So once again, the people have exceeded our expectations."
The WooSox return home on May 31 for a six-game series against the Syracuse Mets.
