WORCESTER, Mass. - The Worcester Fire Department hosted a high school career day on Thursday.

Dozens of students stopped by the fire training center on Grove Street to see the department’s current recruit class perform live firefighting scenarios.

Spectrum News 1 caught up with Acting Deputy Chief Adam Roche and recruit Joshua Watson before the demonstration.

“The fire department in Worcester is increasing as the size of the city increases,” Roche said. “This is an event where we’ve invited all the inter-high high schools to show the students really what it’s like to be a firefighter.”

“They’re able to see it firsthand, live fire scenarios,” Watson said. “So, we are on air, we are in the building, we are in our full bunker gear.”

The Worcester Fire Department’s Diversity and Inclusion Committee offers the career day program. Students also had the chance to learn more about the job by talking directly with recruits, instructors and firefighters.
